Can a Gym Offer TRT or Hormone Therapy? What Owners Need to Know

Short answer: A gym can’t prescribe hormones itself, but it can offer access to hormone therapy through licensed providers. Members start under your gym’s brand, providers order labs and evaluate symptoms, and testosterone or menopausal hormone therapy is prescribed only when clinically appropriate. Testosterone is a controlled substance, so providers handle the strict rules around it.

The conversation is already happening in your gym

The 45-year-old who never misses a session and still feels flat. The member who says nothing changed after menopause except that her body stopped responding. They’re asking you because they trust you. Workouts can’t fix hormones on their own, and they shouldn’t have to figure it out alone.

Who can prescribe hormones?

Only licensed providers can evaluate and prescribe. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance, which means more rules around evaluation, prescribing and monitoring. Your gym’s role is to point members to a qualified provider, not to decide who needs treatment.

What a compliant gym hormone program looks like

  1. A member starts through your gym’s branded link
  2. They complete an online health intake
  3. A licensed provider orders a lab panel
  4. The provider reviews results and symptoms with the member
  5. Treatment only if appropriate, with ongoing labs and monitoring

What your staff can and can’t say

  • Can: “We have a program where a licensed provider can check your labs and talk through options.”
  • Can’t: “You probably have low T, you should get on testosterone.”

Don’t forget the women in your gym

Most “hormones at the gym” talk is about men and TRT. Yet women navigating perimenopause and menopause are a huge part of many gyms’ membership, and they are often underserved by traditional care. A program that includes women’s hormone therapy, guided by licensed providers, can be one of the most meaningful things your gym offers.

Why hormones belong in the hybrid gym

Hormone care is a long-term relationship built on labs, check-ins and adjustments. So is training. When both live under your brand, members get a coordinated plan instead of a fragmented one, and your gym becomes part of how they feel every day, not just where they work out.

FAQ

Can a personal trainer recommend TRT?

No. Trainers can encourage members to talk to a licensed provider, but they shouldn’t suggest anyone needs testosterone or discuss dosing.

Do members need labs first?

Hormone therapy decisions are based on symptoms and lab results. Providers order the labs they need.

Is hormone therapy only for men?

No. Women’s hormone therapy, including perimenopause and menopause support, is one of the most underserved areas in fitness.
